TRIPLE ROCK TRIVIA!!!!!!!! WITH YOUR ESTEEMED HOSTS JECCA AND KEVIN! The word "trivia" comes from the Latin "trivium" which is the place where three roads meet. People would gather and talk about all sorts of matters. Also in medieval universities, the trivium comprised the three subjects taught first, grammar, logic, and rhetoric, AND the Roman Goddess, Trivia, is the goddess of crossroads, witchcraft and the harvest moon. Just thought we should share. PRIZES, FUN, AND YES WE STILL SERVE FOOD AND BOOZE! HONESTLY, WHERE ELSE WOULD YOU RATHER BE. |

MONDO GENERATOR (NICK OLIVERI OF QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, KYUSS, AND THE DWARVES) TWEAK BIRD MONDO GENERATOR Originally formed in 1997 by former Kyuss members Nick Oliveri, Josh Homme and Brant Bjork, the bands initial recordings were shelved when Oliveri and Homme went on to form Queens Of The Stone Age. Eventually these recordings came out in 2000 as the debut Mondo Generator album ‘Cocaine Rodeo’. In 2003 the band released their second album ‘A Drug Problem That Never Existed’ and toured regularly, developing a live reputation that has become something of legend and over the years included guest performances by the likes of Dave Grohl and Twiggy Ramirez (Marilyn Manson, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails). The new band sees Nick Oliveri take control of the project as his solo venture and the change to the name Nick Oliveri and the Mondo Generator refl ects this. ‘Dead Planet: SonicSlowMotionTrails’ is Nick Oliveri at his very best. From the raw bass driven aggression of fi rst single ‘I Never Sleep’ to the whirling melodies of ‘So High’. From the stoned out trip of ‘Take Me Away’ to the chugging Ramones-esque ‘Mental Hell’, this is an album that merges driven punk rock with Nick Oliveri’s unique vocal and lyrical take. The songs also have the hooks that show why he was such an important part of both Kyuss and Queens Of The Stone Age. The album was recorded largely in Dave Grohl’s Studio Studio 606 in LA. TWEAK BIRD Fucking weirdoes. What kind of cover is that? Anyway, I will always love a band that sings a song that contains lyrics like ‘sing me a song that you know will blow my mind, sing me a song I’ll sing along’. I love that kind of stuff. Especially when that line is followed by ‘sing me a song ‘cause tomorrow is the end for you and I'. The ambiguity moves me. I am not sure if these fellas are referring to the apocalypse or are celebrating a break up. I listen to a lot of metal so I’ll go with the former. I love the fuzz and Tweak Bird has aplenty of that. Reservations was produced by the Melvins’ Dale Crover and Altamont’s Toshi Kasai, two dudes that definitely know about getting guitars to sound like basses and synthesizers to sound like guitars. The pitch is nearly perfect, with enough of a cybernetic tone to give this EP a psychedelic feel, which it weirdly has. And I say weirdly because judging by the cover you’d think these two brothers are rednecks with a lowbrow sense of sleeve design. But not. $10 advance tickets/ $12 at the door ADVANCE TICKETS AVAILABLE ONLINE, AT THE TRIPLE ROCK, RED'S SAVOY PIZZA IN UPTOWN AND NOW ALSO AT ECLIPSE RECORDS ON UNIVERSITY IN ST. PAUL! |

LOWER DENS (FEATURING JANA HUNTER) Swarming guitar fuzz, bass waves, Jana Hunter's voice, and insistent drum throbs are the core components of Baltimore's Lower Dens. Hunter, sometimes known for intimate, ghost-heavy weird-fi, is now writing and playing with a group that might get filed as new wave, or drone pop, or post-punk. With due deference to her solo work, we're very glad. The swarming wave-throb, coupled with Hunter's lyrics and redolent, charred voice, wrecks. The band's upcoming record, Twin-Hand Movement, is eleven perfect songs long. From opener "Blue & Silver" (anxiety mounts at a quick clip until the final climactic release) to "Plastic & Powder" (a churning, narcotic slow-burner) to "Hospice Gates" (penultimate album cut, proud weirdo anthem, possible creative zenith), not one is a space-taker. They're rife with the survivalist paranoia you'd expect from residents of a post-urban port hole (and this particular songwriter), crafted methodically and beautifully, and carry you enthusiastically out into the rolling breaks of industrial filth-water. "I Get Nervous", the lead single from THM, starts in a kind of nebulous weird place. Its a good half-minute of straight, building disorientation before the the guitars swell in and make room for the kind of solid drum beat you might never need to stop listening to: steady hi-hat, the snare and kick patiently ticktocking. Guitars wash over everything, and the overdriven bass keeps time with the cymbal. A strummed guitar now announces each measure, and by the time Jana Hunter's voice finally drops like soft water out of the sky, you're floating on it. "In the same rich path, you and I align," goes one of the lines. It could as well be about this song. It's three and a half minutes never feel like enough. The second side, "Johnssong", seems to follows a simple, if tense, narrative down a doo-wop road, until the bottom drops and it suddenly veers into a somehow perfectly suited, looping guitar squall that escalates in thick shrieking layers before it finally crests, parting, making clear that sun-filled, awkward alley once again. Lower Dens formed in 2009, when Hunter set about finding a full-time band. They spent the rest of the year sweating in attics and basements, and only stepped out of the shadows to do a quick tour and record. Twin-Hand Movement was recorded by Chris Freeland (ex-Oxes drummer; proprietor of Beat Babies, Baltimore), mixed by Chris Coady (at his DNA, NYC), and mastered by Sarah Register (of the Lodge, NYC and the band Talk Normal.) BARE WIRES REAL NUMBERS TEENAGE MOODS Bare Wires patents their own brand of electrified garage punk with their latest album Seeking Love (Castle Face). The Oakland based trio fuses glam glitter pop with garage punk grime, producing what has been called everything from Soft Punk to Leather Jacket Rock. Breaking away from the Biker Psych sound of Snake Flower 2, Bare Wires started as the side project of Matthew Melton in 2007 with the release of a crude garage punk single Voodoo Doll on European label Solid Sex Lovie Doll. Later developing on what was called a rawer Raw Power and adding his own analog recording system into the mix, Melton continued to record under the name, releasing the Artificial Clouds LP on Tic Tac Totally in 2009. With solid mid-fi production and a minimalist aesthetic, Artificial Clouds dispensed with the jagged, proto-punk edges of Shes So Out and slipped into the smoother, hook-laden, but no less scrappy rhythms of Go Away Frankie and Teen Witch. Bare Wires smooth punk found only further expression on the Let Down 7 (Milk n Herpes), a dirty, sleazy pair of fuzz-doused songs with guitars ripping through a crunching amplifier on a hazy cloud of smoke. With their latest album Seeking Love, recorded in Meltons bedroom studio in Oakland, CA, the three piece comprised of vocalist and guitarist Matthew Melton, bassist Fletcher Johnson, and drummer Nathan Price, delivers ten stadium-ready tracks of hand-clapping, speaker-blasting rock n roll, while still speaking to the sincerity and authenticity that has become Meltons songwriting trademark. |

SWINGIN' UTTERS THE MENZINGERS THE DIRTY HITS Originally formed in the '80s, the Swingin' Utters brought their own brand of aggressive music to the growing Bay Area punk scene. As well as being classed as a rock, street punk and even Oi band, reminiscent of British '70s bands, Swingin' Utters have increasingly shown themselves to be influenced by traditional Irish, American country, folk, and Reggae. Soon the Swingin' Utters established their position as the West Coast's most dependable purveyors of gimmick-free punk. The genre is all about nonconformity and youthful aggression and rebelling against all things corporate. Without straying from their proletariat roots and blue-collar attitude, the Utters managed to maintain a nearly impossible level of respect from a culture that generally despises any shifts toward mainstream popularity. Swingin' Utters seem ready to defy the usual aging process that forces most punk bands to become little more than musical points of reference. The original punk revivalists stand undeterred by odds that are surely stacked against them, at least in a commercial sense. Of course, MTV sex-appeal and success on the pop-charts have no correlation to punk rock triumph. No lucrative record deal or marketing tactic could prove victory for the Swingin' Utters. These details are trivial in comparison to what the band possesses: a loyal fan-base of over two decades and a permanent position in the history book of American punk. PAUL COLLINS' BEAT THE HYPSTRZ IAN OLVERA & THE SLEEPWALKERS The Beat was founded by Paul Collins, who spent his pre-teens living in Greece, Vietnam and Europe before returning to his native New York. He studied at the prestigious Julliard Music School and eventually moved to San Francisco where he joined songwriter Jack Lee and bassist Peter Case to form The Nerves in 1974. The Nerves proved to be one of the pioneers of the burgeoning US punk rock scene, independently releasing their own 4 song EP which included the classic “Hanging on the Telephone,” later to become a hit for Blondie. After The Nerves disbanded in 1977, Collins moved to LA and formed The Beat with bassist Steve Huff, drummer Mike Ruiz and lead guitarist Larry Whitman. Their friend Eddie Money recommended The Beat for management by legendary concert promoter Bill Graham. Under new management, The Beat toured with The Police, The Jam and Joe Jackson. They also made numerous TV appearances and recorded their debut self-titled album with producer Bruce Botnick (who had produced The Doors). The album featured Beatles and Byrds-influenced guitars and catchy choruses, defining the skinny-tied power pop which The Knack took to the charts. In the ’90s, The Beat re-formed as Paul Collins’ Beat and continues to write and tour. THE HYPSTRZ: Most cover bands don't get much respect, but Minneapolis' Hypstrz were one band who turned their lack of original material into a virtue. In 1976, when punk rock was just beginning to stagger to its feet and the garage rock revival was a few years down the road, the Hypstrz were playing classic rock & roll and R&B tunes from the likes of the Chocolate Watch Band, the Small Faces, the 13th Floor Elevators, Syndicate of Sound, and Wilson Pickett and making them roar like a big block Dodge with a full tank of high test. While leaders Ernest Batson and Bill Batson occasionally wrote an original number, they seemed to work under the (not unreasonable) theory that most of the best tunes were already out there, and they played 'em without a hint of nostalgia -- the Hypstrz weren't an oldies band or Nehru- and fuzztone-obsessed garage archivists, but guys who dug great rock & roll, and were determined to keep one particular strain of it alive and kicking (with the emphasis on "kicking"). In April 1979, the Hypstrz recorded a weekend's worth of shows at the Minneapolis rock club Jay's Longhorn, and a few months later four songs from those shows appeared on a 7" EP, while another 15 tunes were released on the 1981 album Hypstrization. Now, those 19 performances have been released on CD with 15 other tracks recorded that same weekend as Live at the Longhorn, and the result is 79 minutes of high-energy rock & roll, played with heart, soul, joy, and fierce attitude; maybe the guys in the band only wrote four of the 37 songs crammed onto this disc, but anyone who digs music that's tough, passionate, and muscular will listen to this music and wish he was standing in front of the stage, beverage in hand and shaking it out. Three songs from a 2004 performance by the latest lineup of the Hypstrz fill out the package, and prove the Batson brothers can still kick out the jams a quarter-century after the rest of the set was recorded. If every "bar band" were as good as the Hypstrz, maybe there wouldn't be a need for acts any bigger; at very least, it's hard to imagine most other bands delivering as much fun as there is to be had on Live at the Longhorn. ~ Mark Deming, All Music Guide THE SLEEPWALKERS: Building on the success of the groups 2007 debut e.p. "Some Of Us Dream" and in anticipation for 2010's upcoming full length record, the group has pulled out all stops in their current tour schedule, including dates all across Wisconsin and the midwest with friends old and new. A mid 2010 release is expected for the yet-untitled new record, which was recorded in Summer and Fall 2009 with the assistance of Justin Perkins (Obsoletes, The Wandering Sons, Screeching Weasel) and Adam Cargin (Blueheels, Screeching Weasel) at Howl Street Studios in Milwaukee and Top-Soil Studios in Oshkosh. Late summer 2010 plans are already in the works to begin recording the follow up. Busy busy busy is the motto for IO & TS...and there are no signs of slowing down. COLISEUM BURNING LOVE (Toronto, EX-CURSED) FIGHT AMP Coliseum formed in November of 2003 and has since toured and recorded with relentless abandon for the better part of a decade. They issued a self-titled debut album on Level Plane in 2004, followed by the Goddamage EP on Auxiliary Records in 2005, before joining the Relapse Records roster in 2007 for the release of their second album, No Salvation. Following the release of No Salvation, the band embarked on countless tours in North America, Europe, Australia and Japan, with Converge, High On Fire, Mono, Napalm Death, Baroness, Russian Circles, Torche, Integrity, and many others. In 2009, Coliseum released the “True Quiet / Last Wave” 7” single via Deathwish Inc before disappearing from public view to work on their third long-player, House With A Curse, due June 22, 2010 on Temporary Residence. TYVEK A casual glance at the group Tyvek when they first take the stage might disarm you. Where's the egos, where's the Marshall stacks, where does the drummer sit? Who cares? Rock and roll music should be enjoyed; dance, laugh, make merry. By the end of the set you will have forgotten these trivialities. In the words of Haphash and the Coloured Coat, "a mind blown is a mind shown." Songwriter Kevin Boyer recruited friends Matt Ziolkowski and Larry Williams, who had never played music in a group before, to form a band back in 2004. After a few months of training in the attic, Ziolkowski (drums), Williams (bass), and Boyer (vocals, guitar) unleashed Tyvek on the city of Detroit and discerning listeners around the globe have perked their ears. The relatively untutored nature of the group laid out a course both similar to, and influenced by, the free-spirited world of sixties and late seventies/early eighties DIY punk. Simple and relentless rhythms provide the perfectly raw backdrop for a frenetic style of singing and the unhinged and jagged guitar lines that almost careen out of control. Instruments drift in and out of the intended tempo, psychedelic vertigo may occur, and yet well-crafted and eminently catchy songs keep things, just barely, from descending into madness. TITUS ANDRONICUS FREE ENERGY Titus Andronicus is a rock and roll band from Glen Rock. There are four people in the band. Titus Andronicus take their name from a minor Shakespearean tragedy, not, as many people believe, from some sort of killer robot from the future. Titus Andronicus formed in the spring of 2005. Titus Andronicus' debut long player, "The Airing of Grievances" was released in April of 2008 by Troubleman Unlimited, and re-released by XL Recordings in January 2009. XL will release Titus Andronicus' sophomore long player, "The Monitor," in March 2010. Titus Andronicus have shared stages with such noted, world-famous luminaries as Yo La Tengo, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, No Age, The Hold Steady, Fucked Up, Times New Viking, and Los Campesinos. Titus Andronicus practice at Ian's house. Titus Andronicus sometimes disagree on what is the right thing to do. Titus Andronicus like to scream and carry on at excessive volume. Titus Andronicus like songs which are fast more than songs which are slow. Titus Andronicus think slow songs are okay sometimes. Titus Andronicus never sing about love, only hate. Titus Andronicus have no hope for the future. Titus Andronicus believe only in nothingness. Everyone in Titus Andronicus was born to die. DUNGEN THE ENTRANCE BAND In what feels like a very short decade, Sweden’s Dungen has mutated at a furious pace. Main man/ producer/ arranger/ singer/ golden child Gustav Ejstes’s lone constant has been change. Take the leap from Dungen’s self-titled 2001 debut, featuring long psilocybic exploratory tracks of aural tomfoolery, to next year’s Stadsvandringar, which found Ejstes coming to grips with the language of rock. It all converged with the zeitgeist that is Dungen’s third album, Ta Det Lugt, an album that ignited the blogosphere so that it glowed like the aurora borealis. Not content to revel in such accolades, Tio Bitar flashed the band’s pop smarts as well as their incandescent freakouts while 4 put the band’s cohesiveness on display, at once gorgeous and biting. For those who don’t have their English-Svenska Dictionary close at hand when plunking/ popping/ importing Dungen’s sixth album Skit I Allt into their respective LP/CD/ MP3 listening devices, let’s make sure the title doesn’t get lost in translation: “Fuck All.” Really? Should we be expecting a nihilistic punk album? “For me, it means ‘Don’t give a shit, forget about it, just go ahead and do it,” laughs Ejstes. “Skit I Allt is about a certain feeling: you’re with your friends and mates, all hanging out till 6 in the morning. You’re the last one left at the party and you call this person that you want to be with. They’re asleep, but they still say, ‘Ah, fuck it, come over.’ It’s that feeling.” $12 IN ADVANCE/ $14 AT THE DOOR ADVANCE TICKETS AVAILABLE ONLINE, AT THE TRIPLE ROCK, RED'S SAVOY PIZZA IN UPTOWN AND NOW ALSO AT ECLIPSE RECORDS ON UNIVERSITY IN ST. AGNOSTIC FRONT VICTIM IN PAIN 25TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR! MOTHER OF MERCY PRODUCT OF WASTE Agnostic Front will be playing their Victim in Pain album and United Blood 7" start to finish, plus other songs! BIO: Long outliving their now-legendary contemporaries like Minor Threat, SSD, Dead Kennedys and Black Flag, AGNOSTIC FRONT could easily live off their laurels, but their fight is yet over! Throughout their storied history, AGNOSTIC FRONT have been anything but a ravishing group of individuals living prosperously and content. In fact, the band is more akin to have experienced growing up in adverse streets, undergoing arduous times, serving time in prison, become inflicted with murdered friends, the list would go on perpetually. But while there are definite vestiges of the past affecting them, they manage to continue and expose the conflicts they had to undergo in a compellingly evocative approach by relating it to their views of the world today. AGNOSTIC FRONT continues to be living embodiment that "hardcore for life" isn't an empty slogan or a musical dead end. No one is born with tattoos. No one's born hardcore. But when the ink or the music sets in, you're changed. Their latest offering reaffirms that AGNOSTIC FRONT as a band, still operates like a musical razor blade. Regardless of their history, the proof is simple: AGNOSTIC FRONT’s anthems are hard, cutting, and the remarkable music continues to broaden with every release. “We support UNITY! We despise ignorance and hatred within our scene. The only people we should be at war with is those who oppress us, not with each other. Unite! Fight the system! Not ourselves! Believe – Hardcore!” $13 IN ADVANCE/$15 AT THE DOOR - ADVANCE TICKETS AVAILABLE ONLINE, AT THE TRIPLE ROCK, RED'S SAVOY PIZZA IN UPTOWN AND NOW ALSO AT ECLIPSE RECORDS ON UNIVERSITY IN ST. PAUL! |

AN EVENING WITH THE LEGENDARY PINK DOTS 30TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR! The Legendary Pink Dots (LPD) are an Anglo-Dutch experimental rock band formed in London in August 1980. Although far outside the mainstream (in terms of their music and career path), LPD have released more than 40 albums, have a devoted worldwide following, and tour frequently. Their music touches on elements of neo-psychedelia, ambient music, electronic music, tape music, industrial, psych folk, synth-pop and goth rock, with a distinctly experimental/avant-garde bent; their sound has evolved over time and remains distinctive, making it difficult to place the group into a concise style or genre. The group's overall sound combined with Ka-Spel's distinct lyrics and singing have earned comparisons to Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett; the group has also been compared to such classic Seventies bands as Can, Faust, Brainticket, Magma or Neu! (whose "Super" they covered on the 1999 tribute album "A Homage to NEU!"). $15 IN ADVANCE/$18 AT THE DOOR - ADVANCE TICKETS AVAILABLE ONLINE, AT THE TRIPLE ROCK, RED'S SAVOY PIZZA IN UPTOWN AND NOW ALSO AT ECLIPSE RECORDS ON UNIVERSITY IN ST.
