CORY CHISEL AND THE WANDERING SONS DAWES JASON BOESEL (of Rilo Kiley) CORY CHISEL Death Won't Send A Letter, Chisel’s full-length debut for Black Seal Records, is a dark and urgent rock and roll vision. It takes a romantic albeit gutsy stance on the meaning of love and spirituality, as the songs seek to make sense of the world outside and human desires within – reconciling the call of the road and a longing for home, literally and figuratively. With Grammy-winning producer Joe Chiccarelli (The Shins, The White Stripes) at the helm, Cory’s songs have transformed into lush and nuanced recordings that never sacrifice his emotional vulnerability or his rich and unique vocal tone. DAWES The Los Angeles quartet—Goldsmith, 23, (vocals, guitar), his brother Griffin Goldsmith, 18, (drums, vocals), Wylie Gelber, 21 (bass) and Alex Casnoff, 22 (piano, vocals) […however, Tay Strathairn plays piano, vocals on the record] —shares DNA with Simon Dawes, Taylor and Wylie's teenaged band with Blake Mills, but is a vastly different, more creatively audacious beast. “I didn't have a whole lot of respect for what it really meant to write songs back then,” says Taylor Goldsmith. “They were more a vehicle to get to be a young guy in a band.” As Simon Dawes dissolved, he realized rock'n'roll was more than just a lifestyle choice—that even if he never got to be as brilliant as his favorite artists (a list that ranges from Nabokov, Fitzgerald and Rilke to Will Oldham, John Prine and Townes Van Zandt), that was where he had to aim. “I wanted to write songs that actually meant something to me,” he says. “Those guys helped shape my character, how I look at the world. We started Dawes with that intention.” They kept the “Dawes” part of the name in tribute to Taylor and Griffin's country music-loving grandfather, Dawes Lafayette Goldsmith. Their father, former Tower of Power/Sweathog singer Lenny Goldsmith, was more a soul and R&B guy—he could not even abide Bob Dylan. “He told me, 'you don't want to listen to that, he can't sing very well,'” Goldsmith remembers. He listened anyway—Lenny later came around—and also grew to love such classic L.A.-nurtured artists as Gram Parsons, Crosby Stills & Nash and Jackson Browne. It's a set of influences that has also impacted the Delta Spirit, Wilco, Band of Horses and Fleet Foxes, “but where BoH and FF generously borrow from that California sound,” opines the LA Weekly's Randall Roberts, “Dawes breathes it.” JASON BOESEL For the last 15 years, LA-based drummer Jason Boesel has been planted firmly behind the kit, keeping time for the likes of Rilo Kiley, Bright Eyes, The Elected, and more recently, Conor Oberst and The Mystic Valley Band. Boesel was inspired to pick up the guitar and write his own record after his friends raved about the first song he ever wrote: 'Hustler's Son.' Now, a few studio sessions later, Jason Boesel announces his solo debut for Team Love Records: 'Hustler's Son,' out January 12, 2010. $10.00 ADVANCE TICKETS / $10.00 AT THE DOOR TICKETS AVAILABLE AT TRIPLE ROCK, RED'S SAVOY PIZZA IN UPTOWN AND ONLINE!!!null |

DROIDS ATTACK (CD RELEASE!) GOD CAME FROM SPACE ROCKFORD MULES SIRENS OF TITAN DROIDS ATTACK: Blazing guitar riffs, thick low end, and highly imaginative rhythm structures make up the foundation of this "heady" metal outfit from Madison, WI. Brandishing a full bodied tone and a taught signature style that slices through the sterile ceiling fan churn of our modern day Line 6 heroes like a kershaw through the warm neck flesh of a thousand infidels. The Droid's approach suggests a more natural progression between Black Sabbath and Tool, and their throw down approach to the stage has consistently lead the most scowling of metal heads to the front row beaming with delight. It is fun to have your ass kicked this good. |

RETRIBUTION GOSPEL CHOIR (FEATURING ALAN SPARHAWK OF LOW) ANDREW BRODER The most important thing to know about the rock trio Retribution Gospel Choir is that they are likely the most physically fit band on Earth. Drummer Eric Pollard is a distance swimmer, and Ultimate Frisbee champion with state basketball credentials. Bassist Steve Garrington also dazzles on the court, but it’s his long-distance running skills that mark him a champion. Alan Sparhawk, who plays guitar and sings, has extensive experience in American football, has been scouted for coaching work and stays fit as a distance trail runner and member of the band Low. Certainly, this trio would destroy any other band in a 10k race, and then still do the gig. $10 IN ADVANCE/$10 AT THE DOOR TICKETS AVAILABLE ONLINE, THE TRIPLE ROCK, AND RED'S SAVOY PIZZA IN UPTOWN Sponsored by 770 Radio K |

KANSER (ALBUM RELEASE SHOW!) GREENHOUSE (BLUEPRINT & ILLOGIC) PSEUDO SLANG (Buffalo, NY) DUENDAY CONFLICT OF INTEREST New Kanser album appears on planet earth February 26th. KANSER feat Alicia Steele "Two for One" 7 Unicus songs 7 Big Zach(New MC) song.... the double EP The Greenhouse Effect crew was started back in 1996 in Springfield OH, when the emcees Blueprint, Inkwel, & Manifest were in college together. Shortly thereafter they began working on their debut EP titled Up to Speed, that was released in 1998 on cassette then re-released in 1999 on CD. This EP release also marked the birth of their own imprint Weightless Recordings, which has since went on to release music from Blueprint, Illogic, Envelope, & Zero Star in addition to Greenhouse Effect's Music. In 2002, shortly after the release of their Life Sentences album, emcee Inkwel retired from music and started his career in Gospel rap. The remaining emcees Manifest & Blueprint continued on to create the next greenhouse album Columbus or Bust that was released in 2005 through a licensing deal with Raptivism records. Raptivism records pretty much folded soon afterwards, and because of contractual disputes (i.e. them pretty much sucking at everything) the boys from greenhouse effect went their separate ways, back to Weightless where it all began. Months later the greenhouse crew released Greenhouse vs Radiohead, which got much acclaim, although it would never be released commercially for fear of a lawsuit over uncleared samples. In 2007, it was discovered that emcee Manifest had committed many shiesty deeds against his fellow weightless brethren, so he was banished from hip-hop never to be heard from again. Once again Greenhouse was reformed. This time with Blueprint & Illogic, who are now working on their newest release "Bend But Don't Break" to be released in late 2009, produced entirely by Blueprint. Greenhouse. Shakin haters off since '99 $8.00 ADVANCE TICKETS / $10.00 AT THE DOOR - TICKETS AVAILABLE SOON ONLINE, FIFTH ELEMENT AND THE TRIPLE ROCK SOCIAL CLUB! |

FOOD: DOUG FLICKER of PICCOLO & CAKE EATER BAKERY BEER: LEFT HAND BREWING (Colorado) & NORTHERN BREWER MUSIC: NOISE NOISE NOISE (Montana) UNKNOWN PROPHETS BELLA KOSHKA BITCH N' BROWN This time we're making a big deal out of small plates. We welcome Doug Flicker of Piccolo on 43rd and Bryant. With a focus on flavor and locality Doug has been a stalwart proponent of good food in this city for many years. Hailing from such legendary restaurants as Auriga, Porter & Frye and D'amico Kitchen, we count ourselves lucky to bring some flavor samples to the stage. Our brewery guest will be the Eric Wallace and Mike Walters of Left Hand Brewing of Colorado. They are a great craft brewery that has stuck to their guns and continued to produce balanced, drinkable beers and a host of interesting seasonal brews. On the music front, we couldn't be more excited. We'll kick off the evening with the Rockabilly roustabouts BITCH AND BROWN as they bring their atmospheric blend of spaghetti westerns, flathead 8's and heartache. Then prepare to be lulled into a sonic mind trip by the waxing, waning, driving BELLA KOSHKA. Thirdly, our first hip hop act, Nordeast's own Mike and Big Jess, your UNKNOWN PROPHETS will make the hamster wheel in your head spin while you tentatively think about shaking your stoic midwestern booty. To finish things off with a bang, we've brought in NOISE NOISE NOISE, some snotty but well meaning fellas driving all the way from Montana in the name of punk rock. As an added bonus, all around sweetheart and cupcake yakuza overlord Sheela Namakkal of soon-to-open Cake Eater Bakery will be hanging around dispersing some of the best goddamn cupcakes you'll ever taste at intermittent points throughout the night. As always Northern Brewer will be on hand. Pouring the hoppy amber ale from our last show and boiling a whole new batch of beer goodness in the back. Clancey's Meat and Fish in Linden Hills will be providing you a chance at our always inanimate, ever wonderful, forever flavorful, Dead Meat Door Prizes. FILL IN THE BREAKS PRESENTS "AWOL ONE AND ECID ARE" ALBUM RELEASE PARTY AWOL ONE & ECID SIMS (of Doomtree) CARNAGE THE EXECUTIONER OUT OF BOUNDS A MILLION DEAD EMO KIDS Who are Awol One and Ecid? Are they shape-shifting heroes from hiphop's distant past sent back to the future? Are they animal poets trapped in a shell of b-boy bodies? Are they MTV reality show robots in training? Are they skeleton monsters? Are they made of flesh or circuits? No one is exactly sure what they are, they just are... While touring the Midwest years ago - Los Angeles MC/Artist Tony aka Awol One and Minneapolis MC/Producer Jason aka Ecid began building the foundation for a classic collaboration between two of indie-hiphop’s most unpredictable talents and original voices. Two years and many L.A. / Minneapolis flights later they have constructed a cohesive album built on label Fill In The Breaks trademark production and balanced by Awol and Ecid’s knack for witty sarcasm and melodic hooks. Like too many forced and ill planned collaborations before them, this new duo had no intentions of just running through the motions - they wanted to make an unapologetic, raw and focused record. From the first horn stab on the opening track “Root For The Villain”, to the epic posse-cut “Calm Down” and the sure-fire anthem “Clever Marketing”, one thing is for sure – Awol One and Ecid are... |

A STORM OF LIGHT VIA VENGEANCE BATTLEFIELDS FRONTIER **MASS MOVEMENT - review (w/c 19 Oct) " An aural panorama as beautiful and apocalyptic as the artwork which accompanies this second release from A Storm of Light. Crushingly heavy guitars and tortured vocals segue into doleful strings, perfectly evoking this tale of devastation and rebirth. The spoken words of the legendary Lydia Lunch flawlessly capture the tone and intent of the music. Fans of Neurosis, the prophetic warnings of Rachel Carsen’s ‘Silent Spring’ and Genet/Neurot recordings in general will fully appreciate this release. Essential listening." |

LESLIE AND THE LY'S CHRISTOPHER THE CONQUERED Leslie Hall initally caught the hearts & eyes of America’s children when she began posting images of her world famous gem sweater collection on the interweb. TOBACCO (OF BLACK MOTH SUPER RAINBOW) HIGH PLACES THE HOOD INTERNET Tobacco sometimes runs with a group called Black Moth Super Rainbow. On Fucked Up Friends, his latest mission, he works alone. Tobacco’s tools are analog synths, tape machines, and deformed incantations from throats unknown. His music is a wash of distortion and melody over jagged beats. It amalgamates hypnotic, cosmopolitan pop, gritty, propulsive hip-hop and a night full of fevered dreams. It buoys the spirit, braces the nerves, and smuggles disoriented paranoia deep into the subconscious. These are anxiously driven, effortlessly smooth and unapologetically badass sounds of inner nature. It's not that Brooklyn's High Places remind me of a lot of things I like already -- minimal, bleary indie pop like Beat Happening or Young Marble Giants; subaqueous psychedelia from Ricardo Villalobos to Martin Denny exotica; girlish nursery-rhyme vocals; New York City; heavy syncopation; pentatonic scales; kissing -- it's that I usually only get to have them all together when I'm dreaming. High Places sing about dreaming. They sing about dreaming and evolution and writing letters -- to Mars, I think! -- and even though they sing about the haze of falling in love on 'Head Spins', the closest they come to sex is watching hermaphroditic banana slugs swap sperm while clouds roll overhead. This all happens in about nine minutes. Sure, they have a handful of other songs that they play live, but High Places are a relatively small, embryonic band, literally and metaphorically. There are only two members, Rob Barber and Mary Pearson. They clink on glasses and hit hand drums and adorn them with spare guitar figures before sending everything through basic effects processors. The Hood Internet is a Chicago-based duo specializing in mashups of hip-hop (from the mainstream to the underground) with indie rock. They also run a blog of the same name through which they release their music, a venture that helped them earn notability as a minor internet phenomenon. The Hood Internet is composed of Aaron Brink (aka ABX) and Steve Reidell (aka STV SLV). DEER TICK THOSE DARLINS Deer Tick began in December of 2004 in the bedroom of Providence native, John McCauley. With a tape recorder and a nylon string guitar, he did what most anybody would do; he made tapes for his friends. When McCauley, then 18 years old, got his hands on Hank Williams Sr.'s "Gold" collection and locked himself in his room listening to it on repeat until he finished his bottle of brandy, it all became fairly obvious to him-- he was on his first tour just a few months later. After years of being on the road, fully developing his distinct howl of a voice, anddo honing his guitar skills, McCauley had earned himself a following of devoted fans and supporters. Throughout all of this touring and selling his songs on CD-R, it became apparent that putting out a real album was the natural next step in McCauley's musical life. McCauley recorded Deer Tick's debut War Elephant at age 19, performing every instrument on the album. War Elephant was originally released in September of 2007 to much critical acclaim from The New York Times, Brooklyn Vegan, Spin, and many others. But McCauley's vision from the start was for Deer Tick to be a real band, and a rotating cast of characters simply wouldn't suffice anymore. In April of 2007, just weeks before a national tour, McCauley turned to Dennis Ryan, a hard-hitting young drummer who had just decided to cut his college career about 3 years short. The two had played together before and their energy while performing was something unmatched for the both of them. It took no convincing Dennis at all that this was a good idea. He said "yes" before McCauley even finished asking him. Dennis Ryan grew up in neighboring Pawtucket, RI. His dream had always been to become a famous, and perhaps more importantly, badass drummer. His epiphany occurred at the curious age of 3, while watching Ronnie Tutt play the drums with Elvis Presley in a rerun of the "Aloha From Hawaii" special. After the national tour it was time for Deer Tick to find a bassist. McCauley had tried to convince Chris Ryan, a bass player in town, to join Deer Tick for quite some time. That August, Chris Ryan returned from a trip driving his VW Van from Providence to Costa Rica and back (though he only made it as far as Guatemala and back). Chris came speeding down Empire Street in downtown Providence, where McCauley was sitting at a table outside enjoying a beer. A swarm of people surrounded the van welcoming Chris and his traveling companions home. Before you knew it McCauley was asking the road weary traveler to join Deer Tick again. The band was completed in August 2008, when Andrew Tobiassen, a funky, young guitarist living in Providence, RI joined up with the band. Born On Flag Day is Deer Tick's highly anticipated second full-length album and follow-up to the band's 2007 internationally acclaimed debut, War Elephant (reissued in 2008 by Partisan Records). This release follows two years of extensive touring in sold out clubs across the country and abroad. Unlike War Elephant, this album features the three new members of Deer Tick that principal songwriter John J. McCauley III recruited to become the band's current incarnation - Andy Tobiassen, Dennis Ryan and Chris Ryan. Born On Flag Dayreflects a natural evolution from a singular vision of one songwriter to something much greater. The album is set for a June 23rd street date on Partisan Records. $10.00 ADVANCE TICKETS / $12.00 AT THE DOOR TICKETS AVAILABLE ONLINE, AT TRIPLE ROCK AND RED'S SAVOY PIZZA IN UPTOWN!!! |

TEENAGE BOTTLEROCKET TONY SLY (OF NOUSEFORANAME) RED PHONE DISPATCH Laramie, Wyoming has never exactly been a hotbed for, well, anything. Let alone any kind of punk rock scene. But you'd be surprised, I certainly was when I heard about the pride of the Cowboy State: Teenage Bottlerocket. Turns out there's actually a vibrant underground scene out yonder and Laramie boasts about a dozen bands. I propose this: isolation is their best ally in light of the dismal music trends of today. These guys don't trouble themselves with low-cut jeans or makeup, instead they work hard at perfecting their infectious songs and tightening up their live set. Fashion-core? Never heard of it. Their only gimmick is the kick-ass punk songs they write. $8.00 ADVANCE TICKETS / $10.00 AT THE DOOR TICKETS AVAILABLE AT TRIPLE ROCK, RED'S SAVOY PIZZA IN UPTOWN AND ONLINE!!! |

ANTISEEN JOE BUCK YOURSELF THE HOSTAGES 10W40 ANTISEEN Band members may have come and band members may have gone but Mad Dog Jeff Clayton and Mighty Joe Young have held the Destructo flag high all these long years. They have raged a sonic blitzkrieg all the way from the backwoods juke joints of South Carolina to the legendary German beer halls and left eardrums bleeding on both sides of the ocean. They have recorded with the likes of notorious madman GG Allin and legendary Alice Cooper guitarist Michael Bruce. Their recordings are the heaviest slabs of out of control redneck rockin' you'll ever hope to come across.....their live shows are the stuff of legend... and they just get meaner with age. ANTiSEEN have been waging a war on musical mediocrity for twenty five years now and by god they're winning. JOE BUCK YOURSELF The once anti-Nashville based Joe Buck gained notoriety as the guitarist of Th' Legendary Shack Shakers. As Hank III's villainous sideman onstage, the snarling upright bass player became infamously recognizable. Joe Buck Yourself is now a bona fide evil motherfucking, one man band. This unique blend of hellbilly punk rock ain't your grandma's hillbilly music. Joe Buck yourself, motherfuckers! $10.00 ADVANCE TICKETS / $12.00 AT THE DOOR TICKETS AVAILABLE AT TRIPLE ROCK, RED'S SAVOY PIZZA IN UPTOWN AND ONLINE!!! |
