FRIDAY
TYVEK
HOWLER
FOREST OF MEN
CALAMITY AND THE OWL

A casual glance at the group Tyvek when they first take the stage might disarm you. Where's the egos, where's the Marshall stacks, where does the drummer sit? Who cares? Rock and roll music should be enjoyed; dance, laugh, make merry. By the end of the set you will have forgotten these trivialities. In the words of Haphash and the Coloured Coat, "a mind blown is a mind shown."

Songwriter Kevin Boyer recruited friends Matt Ziolkowski and Larry Williams, who had never played music in a group before, to form a band back in 2004. After a few months of training in the attic, Ziolkowski (drums), Williams (bass), and Boyer (vocals, guitar) unleashed Tyvek on the city of Detroit and discerning listeners around the globe have perked their ears. The relatively untutored nature of the group laid out a course both similar to, and influenced by, the free-spirited world of sixties and late seventies/early eighties DIY punk. Simple and relentless rhythms provide the perfectly raw backdrop for a frenetic style of singing and the unhinged and jagged guitar lines that almost careen out of control. Instruments drift in and out of the intended tempo, psychedelic vertigo may occur, and yet well-crafted and eminently catchy songs keep things, just barely, from descending into madness.

ALAS ALAS
JASCHA

SORRY OK

The evolution of singer-songwriter-turned-community-project-turned-full-on-band jascha. finds itself enjoying its latest musical mutation. Over the past year, jascha. has come into its own, filtering a penchant for Fleet Foxes-esque four part harmonies into a diverse indie rock sound that at once recalls Built to Spill, Modest Mouse and Arcade Fire.

Propelled by the introspective lyrics of lead singer/songwriter Jascha, the “…whiskey-drenched rock/gospel-folk inspired sounds we’ve come to love from this band (MyOldKentuckyBlog.com)” finds itself on 7 inches of vinyl with its latest EP release, "At The Mouth Of The Well Of The Twisted Serpent/Indianapolis: The Paris Of The Midwest," released by Standard Recording Company.

Having graced the stage with Rev. Peyton's Big Damn Band, Bowerbirds, Seedy Seeds and Those Darlins, jascha. has developed a reputation for a deeply moving, electrifying live show that “…makes you feel encapsulated within the lost art of expression (ZaptownMag.com).”

TITUS ANDRONICUS

FREE ENERGY

DRAGONS POWER UP!

Titus Andronicus is a rock and roll band from Glen Rock. There are four people in the band. Titus Andronicus take their name from a minor Shakespearean tragedy, not, as many people believe, from some sort of killer robot from the future. Titus Andronicus formed in the spring of 2005. Titus Andronicus' debut long player, "The Airing of Grievances" was released in April of 2008 by Troubleman Unlimited, and re-released by XL Recordings in January 2009. XL will release Titus Andronicus' sophomore long player, "The Monitor," in March 2010.

Titus Andronicus have shared stages with such noted, world-famous luminaries as Yo La Tengo, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, No Age, The Hold Steady, Fucked Up, Times New Viking, and Los Campesinos. Titus Andronicus practice at Ian's house.

Titus Andronicus sometimes disagree on what is the right thing to do. Titus Andronicus like to scream and carry on at excessive volume. Titus Andronicus like songs which are fast more than songs which are slow. Titus Andronicus think slow songs are okay sometimes. Titus Andronicus never sing about love, only hate. Titus Andronicus have no hope for the future. Titus Andronicus believe only in nothingness. Everyone in Titus Andronicus was born to die. Titus Andronicus crave your approval but will settle for your utter disdain.

DUNGEN
THE ENTRANCE BAND

In what feels like a very short decade, Sweden’s Dungen has mutated at a furious pace. Main man/ producer/ arranger/ singer/ golden child Gustav Ejstes’s lone constant has been change. Take the leap from Dungen’s self-titled 2001 debut, featuring long psilocybic exploratory tracks of aural tomfoolery, to next year’s Stadsvandringar, which found Ejstes coming to grips with the language of rock. It all converged with the zeitgeist that is Dungen’s third album, Ta Det Lugt, an album that ignited the blogosphere so that it glowed like the aurora borealis. Not content to revel in such accolades, Tio Bitar flashed the band’s pop smarts as well as their incandescent freakouts while 4 put the band’s cohesiveness on display, at once gorgeous and biting.

For those who don’t have their English-Svenska Dictionary close at hand when plunking/ popping/ importing Dungen’s sixth album Skit I Allt into their respective LP/CD/ MP3 listening devices, let’s make sure the title doesn’t get lost in translation: “Fuck All.” Really? Should we be expecting a nihilistic punk album? “For me, it means ‘Don’t give a shit, forget about it, just go ahead and do it,” laughs Ejstes. “Skit I Allt is about a certain feeling: you’re with your friends and mates, all hanging out till 6 in the morning. You’re the last one left at the party and you call this person that you want to be with. They’re asleep, but they still say, ‘Ah, fuck it, come over.’ It’s that feeling.”

FAUN FABLES

Out of the glittering caverns of the soul crawls the sixth release of Drag City recording artists FAUN FABLES, ‘LIGHT OF A VASTER DARK,’ a vibrant collection of songs and sounds excavated by songwriter Dawn McCarthy and supported by steadfast collaborator Nils Frykdahl of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum.

This album sparkles with a fear, wonder and playfulness that Faun Fables have become known for: it meditates on the cyclical nature of light and darkness as revealed in the seasons of life, and in the beautiful power of steadfast and humble things like housekeeping, immigrant pioneers and a homely civic parade.

Amidst the solid, elemental structure of McCarthy and Frykdahl’s guitars and eclectic percussion whirl the violins of Meredith Yayanos and the multi-instrumental touches & vocals of Kirana Peyton; a continuation of the lush work with them from the 2008 EP release ‘A TABLE FORGOTTEN’ (Drag City). Driven bass clarinets and shakuhachi flutes from Cornelius Boots and the rich harmonica tones of Mark Stikman complete the sound, with McCarthy’s vocals at the helm, leading the swirling hive through the air like a Valkyrie with the point of a blade.
The official release date is slotted for August 2010, when Dawn and Nils will head out with their family and RV across North America. Catch them as raw, electric duo or with a rotating selection of musical guests along the way.

AGNOSTIC FRONT

VICTIM IN PAIN 25TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR!

MOTHER OF MERCY
PRODUCT OF WASTE

Agnostic Front will be playing their Victim in Pain album and United Blood 7" start to finish, plus other songs!

BIO: Long outliving their now-legendary contemporaries like Minor Threat, SSD, Dead Kennedys and Black Flag, AGNOSTIC FRONT could easily live off their laurels, but their fight is yet over! Throughout their storied history, AGNOSTIC FRONT have been anything but a ravishing group of individuals living prosperously and content. In fact, the band is more akin to have experienced growing up in adverse streets, undergoing arduous times, serving time in prison, become inflicted with murdered friends, the list would go on perpetually. But while there are definite vestiges of the past affecting them, they manage to continue and expose the conflicts they had to undergo in a compellingly evocative approach by relating it to their views of the world today.
AGNOSTIC FRONT continues to be living embodiment that "hardcore for life" isn't an empty slogan or a musical dead end. No one is born with tattoos. No one's born hardcore. But when the ink or the music sets in, you're changed. Their latest offering reaffirms that AGNOSTIC FRONT as a band, still operates like a musical razor blade. Regardless of their history, the proof is simple: AGNOSTIC FRONT’s anthems are hard, cutting, and the remarkable music continues to broaden with every release. “We support UNITY! We despise ignorance and hatred within our scene. The only people we should be at war with is those who oppress us, not with each other. Unite! Fight the system! Not ourselves! Believe – Hardcore!”

AN EVENING WITH THE LEGENDARY PINK DOTS
30TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR!

The Legendary Pink Dots (LPD) are an Anglo-Dutch experimental rock band formed in London in August 1980. Although far outside the mainstream (in terms of their music and career path), LPD have released more than 40 albums, have a devoted worldwide following, and tour frequently.

Their music touches on elements of neo-psychedelia, ambient music, electronic music, tape music, industrial, psych folk, synth-pop and goth rock, with a distinctly experimental/avant-garde bent; their sound has evolved over time and remains distinctive, making it difficult to place the group into a concise style or genre. The group's overall sound combined with Ka-Spel's distinct lyrics and singing have earned comparisons to Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett; the group has also been compared to such classic Seventies bands as Can, Faust, Brainticket, Magma or Neu! (whose "Super" they covered on the 1999 tribute album "A Homage to NEU!").

DEER TICK

There are many reasons why Deer Tick are an excellent band. Here are mine. Firstly, they have great songs. War Elephant is a great album. The follow up, Born on Flag Day is just as strong. Alt-country is a curious genre, often misconstrued, misrepresented and misunderstood. Well, for me, this lot here's a contemporary blueprint. There's country (duh), punk, blues, folk, grunge and garage rock. Hell, even their choice of cover versions - Replacements, Michael Hurley, John Prine, The Sex Pistols and Chuck Berry - goes a long way to pinning down their sound.

McCauley's voice is a hybrid of Kurt Cobain and Gary Louris from the Jayhawks. Sometimes he sounds like he's been gargling gravel with moonshine. He can croon, he can yelp and he can shout. He's a superb lead singer, backed by a talented, if mostly acquiescent unit. They recently recruited guitarist Ian O'Neil from New Jersey noiseniks Titus Andronicus, which allows McCauley more freedom to noodle, drink more beer, or, um, get his cock out.

They know how to play their songs live. By that, I don't mean they can robotically churn out high fidelity renditions of their records, which I am pretty sure they can. In the flesh, these guys sound completely different than they do through your speakers. It sounds like a lazy observation to make, but when Deer Tick play live, they sound live. They sound louder, rawer and more raucous than anyone who's heard their records could've thought possible. They improvise, they play requests, they invite people onto the stage, they throw balls to the wall, and it all sticks.

TWO COW GARAGE
THE EVENING RIG
HOLYOKE

These guys are the perfect amalgamation of Lucero and the Drive By Truckers and if you are fan of our bands Drag the River and Tim Barry, these guys might become your new favorite band. Jon Snodgrass from Drag the River told me that I would love Two Cow Garage. He had their manager, Chris Flint, send me a copy of their upcoming album, III, and when I got it I could not stop listening to it. The band put out the record themselves and I had agreed to distribute it. After listening to the album nearly 1,000 times, I asked the band if I could adopt them. Kind of a weird thought, but I love this band and record so much, I wanted to be involved any way I could. Please take some time to get yourself acquainted with this band and you will see why we had to add them to our family.
